Rookie Lifeguard

The Rookie Lifeguard programme is developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK the leading provider for water safety education, rescue techniques and resuscitation. The programme has been developed in conjunction with the asa and the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.

There are three stages; Bronze, Silver and Gold and each stage is subdivided into three levels. Each stage is roughly 8-10 weeks and a pupil can enter the scheme at any point and they progress at their own rate. Items can be signed off as completed as they do them without the need to complete all elements in one session.

Also part of the Rookie Lifeguard Programme are a Water Safety Award, a Life Support Award and Achievement Awards as well as the Speciality Bolt-on awards such as Lifesaving Sport, Snorkelling, Paddle Board and Beach awards.

Rookie Instructors now have comprehensive resources at their fingertips with all necessary information to enable you to teach Rookie Lifeguard almost immediately. The neoprene Rookie Instructors Folder includes; splash proof Skill Guide, splash proof Awards Booklet and session plans for each of the stages. Other items associated with the programme include; a certificate and a badge awarded for each of the stages and levels, skills posters ideal for the poolside and a Children’s Progress Booklet.

Additional resources including games, activity worksheets, Rookie Progress Books, Rookie clothing and other items are available from the website www.lifesavers.org.uk in the Rookie Lifeguard section.
